Jodhpur, widely known as the "Blue City" for the indigo-washed houses that spill across its old town, is the gateway to the Thar Desert and one of Rajasthan's most striking destinations. Founded in 1459 by Rao Jodha, it grew into the capital of the Marwar kingdom and still carries that royal legacy in its forts, palaces, and bazaars.

Towering over the city, Mehrangarh Fort is one of the largest and best-preserved forts in India, with museum galleries of royal armour, palanquins, and miniature paintings, plus sweeping views across the blue rooftops below. The Umaid Bhawan Palace, part royal residence and part heritage hotel, is one of the largest private residences in the world. Wander the narrow lanes of the old city for spice markets, textile shops, and the bustling Sardar Market beneath the Clock Tower.

Most visitors combine Jodhpur with Jaisalmer and Udaipur as part of a longer Rajasthan itinerary, making it a natural extension of the classic Golden Triangle route.
